Fraser, MI â The Motor City Mechanics won their sixth straight game, scoring a franchise high ten goals, on the heels of a Jeff Doyle hat trick. Chris Chelios and Bryan Smolinski each recorded five points on the night, while Sean Avery and Mike Burgoyne tallied three.
Richmond opened up the scoring 5:53 into the first period on a goal by David Brosseau. Chelios scored his first of the night, a power play tally to tie the game. Jim Duhart gave the RiverDogs a 2-1 lead and it was Chelios who found the back of the net to knot the game at two.
With the game tied at two heading into the second period, the Mechanics took control, dominating with three goals in the second period and five more in the third. Chelios (2g, 3a) and Smolinski (1g, 4a) each tallied five points on the night. Doyle netted the hat trick, the first of his career. Assistant Captain and Garden City, MI native Joe Burton scored two goals, Burgoyne (1g, 2a), Sean Avery (1g, 2a), captain Blair Manning (2a) and Chris Gignac (2a) were the other multiple scorers for Motor City. The Mechanics outshot Richmond 47-32.
The Mechanics are at home tomorrow at 5:00pm when they host the Muskegon Fury. Join Mary Kay and the Mechanics for Pink at the Rink on Sunday! The entire Motor City squad will be sporting pink jerseys. The jerseys will be auctioned off following the game, with the proceeds benefiting the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation for breast cancer research.
