Elmira Jackals News Release
The fans were not settled in the seats when David Hymovitz snuck behind the defense to slap home a rebound just 18 seconds into the game for a 1-0 Richmond lead. Newcomer Alex Mathieu scored his first goal as a Jackals to tie the game at 4:02, which his pass deflected off a Riverdog and found the net. Charlie Elezi then gave Elmira its only lead of the game when he scored his first goal of the season at 14:51, assisted by Jason Jaworski and Jason Cassells. But Ryan Prentice tied things up at 19:16 to make the score 2-2 after one period.
Richmond regained the lead in the second period and would cling to it all the way to the end. Bill Downey scored at 4:10, his first goal for Richmond, then David Brosseau made it 4-2 at 8:53 with a short-handed goal. Nathan Gillies brought the Jackals back within a goal when scored at 12:42 from Eddy Lowe and Jeff Antonovich. Richmond answered at 16:52 with a goal from Kurtis McLean to make it 5-3 after two.
David Hymovitz struck again halfway through the third period when he stole the puck and raced in alone on Greg Hewitt and scored his second goal of the game at 11:54, his 31st goal of the season. Elmira came back to make the score 6-4 at 12:32 when defenseman Sergei Durdin found the net, his first goal with the Jackals. Alex Mathieu made it closer by scoring his second goal of the game with 0.2 seconds left on the clock, assisted by Gillies and Jaworski, but it was too late for to score an equalizer.
Dan McIntyre earned his first win since being traded from Flint, stopping 38-of-43 in the win. Greg Hewitt made 48 saves on 54 shots in the loss for Elmira.
The Jackals are back in action on Friday night, March 25th against the Danbury Trashers at 7:30 pm at the First Arena.
