Kansas City Outlaws News Release

Day games after night games can be tough for any hockey team. Between the aches and pains from the night before and the lack of quality sleep, it can be hard to get even a great hockey team to play at full potential in that situation. For example, today the Kansas City Outlaws needed until the second period to explode for 4 goals in one frame. The boys defeated Quad City 6-1, their second 6 goal effort in as many games, and second win in a row.

Matthieu Descoteaux first put Kansas City on the board with 8:04 left in the first period, beating Quad City's Jeff Reynaert. The goal, Disco's 8th of the year, was assisted by Jimmy Callahan after Cally carried the puck coast-to-coast.

After apparently getting some rest during the first intermission, the Outlaws rattled off four consecutive goals in the second period. Kansas City leading scorer Smokin' Joe Seroski connected at 3:21 (Andrei Lupandin, Jason Ruff), followed by Derek Kern's first of the day at 10:58, to give the Outlaws a 3-0 lead.

With Quad City's Justin Brown in the box for slashing, Kansas City Rookie of the Year candidate Mark Lee notched his 13th of the year at 12:47. Ruff and Lupandin picked up the assists.

Meanwhile, Derek Kern- a fan favorite all seasonf or his scrappy play- seems to have turned into Joe Seroski II. Kernsy scored his second goal of the period at 14:12 of the second period, giving him 3 goals in 2 games and 6 for the season.

Mallard coach Paul Gillis has been around the block, and he used a little gamesmanship in an effort to rally his team from disaster. When Outlaw George Davis went to the box at 18:39 for slashing, Gillis focused on Kansas City's Robert Machalek, demanding a check of Machalek's stick. Machi apparently needs some new equipment, because his Sher-wood was warped just a fraction of an inch beyond the legal limit. Machalek joined Davis in the box, and Quad City had a 2 man advantage. Mallard Patrick Nadeau spoiled the shut out with the power play goal at 19:24 (Terry Hollinger, Greg Barber).

Machalek got a little revenge, scoring his first of the year at 3:07 of the third period. Machalek was assisted by Joe Seroski.

Outlaw goaltender Maxime Gingras responded well after allowing 4 goals in last night's win, kicking aside 34 of 35 Quad City shots en route to the 6-1 victory.
