Portland, Maine- Portland Sea Dogs' outfielder Brandon Moss has been named Eastern League Player of the Week for the week of June 19th through June 25th, 2006. Major League Baseball Advanced Media (MLBAM) made the selection.
Moss hit .478 (11 for 23) with four doubles, a triple, a home run, 5 RBI's, and seven runs scored in six games during the week. He improved his overall batting average 21 points to .263. Moss also led the league for the week with an .870 slugging percentage. In 68 games this season, Moss is batting .263 and ranks second in the league in doubles (22), and fourth in RBI's (46). Moss is hitting at a .377 clip in the month of June and has collected five of his eight home runs this month.
The 22-year-old, Georgia native was the Red Sox 7th pick (8th round, 238th overall pick) of the 2002 June draft. Moss was also named Eastern League Player of the Week for the week of August 29th though September 5th, 2005. Moss is a member of the Red Sox 40-man roster.
Moss is the second Sea Dogs player to take home Eastern League Player of the Week honors this season joining third baseman Chad Spann. Two Sea Dogs pitchers Phil Seibel and Kason Gabbard were also named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week this season.
The Portland Sea Dogs enjoy an off-day today and begin a three game road trip to New Britain on Tuesday. The Sea Dogs return to Hadlock on Friday evening for a four game series with the Trenton Thunder (Yankees).
