Moroff Named Pirates Minor League Player of the Year

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Altoona Curve infielder Max Moroff has been named the 2015 Pittsburgh Pirates Minor League Player of the Year, as announced by Pirates' Director of Minor League Operations Larry Broadway on Tuesday.
Moroff, who was also named as the Curve's Most Valuable Player at the end of the regular season, was honored during a pregame ceremony prior to Tuesday night's Pirates game at PNC Park.
"It was a very special honor," Moroff said. "I am very fortunate to play in the Pirates' organization and I'm glad my family was here to see that."
While helping lead the Curve to their first playoff appearance since 2010, Moroff batted .293 this season with seven home runs and 51 RBIs. He ranked among the league leaders in games played (136, 1st), runs scored (79, 1st), hits (153, 2nd), total bases (214, 4th) and walks (70, 3rd).
The Maitland, Fla. native also led Eastern League second basemen in fielding percentage (.978), double plays (76) and assists (330).
"Max had a great year for Altoona and was a big part of the club's postseason berth this year," Broadway said. "His consistency in both production on both sides of the ball, and his ability to post every day are what earned this award for him."
His 153 hits were the most by a switch-hitter in Altoona franchise history.
Back in July, Moroff was selected to represent the Curve at the 2015 Eastern League All-Star Classic in Portland, Maine. He was also picked to the Eastern League Post-Season All-Star Team.
