Belleville Bulls News Release
KINGSTON, ON - The race for a playoff spot in the OHL's Eastern Conference continues on Friday night as the Belleville Bulls visit a familiar foe, the Kingston Frontenacs. The boys from the limestone city grabbed a point in a shootout loss to the Barrie Colts on Thursday night and are now tied with the Bulls heading into the sixth of eight meetings between the two rivals. Puck drop from the Rogers K-Rock Centre is set for 7:00pm.
Kingston led 2-1 until the 16-minute mark when Justin Scott scored the equalizer on the power play. Scott went on to score the eventual shootout winner in the 6th round. Fronts netminder Lucas Peressini made 33 saves in the loss. Goal scorers for the visiting Frontenacs were over-ager Samuel Schutt and Finland product Juho Lammikko. Evan McEneny buried the first shootout goal for his club.
Bolton, Ontario native Robert Polesello has been a key contributor for the Fronts this season as he has potted 17 goals and added 19 assists in 38 games played. Team Canada winger Lawson Crouse has also been a big helper on the score sheet putting up 18 tallies and handing out 10 assists in 36 games played.
"They are one of the best defensive teams in our league with a goaltender that is playing as well as anybody and we are going to have to compete extremely hard to get to the net and make some things happen." said Head Coach George Burnett on Friday morning.
The Bulls are looking to bounce back after a tough three-game road trip last weekend, acquiring only two out of a possible six points. Belleville's only win of the swing came on Saturday night in 5-4 overtime over the Saginaw Spirit. Veteran Forward David Tomasek scored two goals, including the overtime winner in Saginaw and picked up an assist over the weekend.
Blue liner Jordan Subban continues to lead his club in the scoring department as he has posted 18 goals and handed out 19 assists in 46 games played. Captain, Brett Welychka continues to be day-to-day after suffering a knee injury on January 17th but could be a game time decision on Friday night.
Burnett says it's been nice to have a full team back on the ice for practice. "For the first time in about three or four weeks we are having to sit healthy people, which is never a lot of fun but it is good to get our guys healthy and back playing."
Charlie Graham is expected to get the start in Kingston. The Bulls are only 3 points in front of the Mississauga Steelheads and 4 points ahead of the Peterborough Petes.
-- The Bulls return home on Saturday night as they take on Nick Paul and the North Bay Battalion. Great seats are still available, stop by the Bulls Box Office or call (613) 966-8338 to get yours today!
