Jackson Generals News Release

JACKSON, TENN. (August 14, 2013) - The Generals (24-25) pounded out nine runs on 11 hits, including two homers and snagged their second straight win over the Montgomery Biscuits (23-29), 9-5 Wednesday. After going hitless with runners in scoring position in last night's win, Jackson finished the night by going 4-for-10, leaving only three runners on base.

Wednesday's game featured another pair of good starts. Anthony Fernandez (W, 9-6, 3.91) improved his record to 4-1 in his last five starts, turning in six innings in a quality start. The left-hander allowed six hits on the night, but only gave up two earned runs. Fernandez only walked one, but finished his outing with a strikeout - one of four on the night.

Jackson jumped out to the lead in the third thanks to the bottom of the lineup. Denny Almonte (3-4, 2 R, 2B) kicked things off with a single and was eventually moved to third on a SAC bunt. Leon Landry (1-4, RBI) brought him in and jumpstarted the offense.

Montgomery grabbed the lead for a brief moment in the top of the fifth for the first time in the series courtesy of four singles. They led 2-1, but the lead was short-lived. The Generals answered with two runs thanks again to Almonte. The centerfielder led off with a hit and then Gabriel Noriega (2-3, 3B, RBI, R) lined a triple deep to the outfield. Noriega would come in to score later in the inning, helping give Jackson back the lead, 3-2. The Generals got two more in the sixth via a Ji-Man Choi (1-4, HR, R, 2 RBI) long ball, his ninth on the season.

It was a three-run lead for the Generals, but it was not enough to please the team. The home team added a four-run seventh inning from one swing of a bat. Ramon Morla (2-4, GS, 4 RBI, 2 R, 2B) was 4-for-10 with the bases loaded, and he added to it with his second grand slam of the year. Morla now has 15 RBI with the bases loaded on the season and it helped give Jackson a 9-2 lead.

Stephen Shackleford (3.48) worked a spotless seventh, but Tyler Burgoon (3.40) and Dominic Leone (3.00) both had trouble in the final two innings, surrendering a combined three runs.

The middle game of the series will begin at 7:05 p.m. (CT) on Thursday. The pitching matchup will feature Trevor Miller (1-1, 6.26) going against Jake Thompson (11-9, 4.14). The game can be heard on 96.5 ESPN Radio, TuneIn Radio App. and jacksongeneralsbaseball.com.
