Charlotte Knights News Release
(Fort Mill, SC) -- Brent Morel dropped a base hit over the drawn-in infield into shallow right-field with one out in the ninth inning to score Tyler Kuhn and the Charlotte Knights recorded their ninth walk-off win of the season with a 3-2 victory over the Gwinnett Braves at Knights Stadium on Sunday.
Former Clemson Tiger Daniel Moskos (2-2, 3.18) pitched the final 1.1 innings en route to his second win of the season.
The Knights (62-48) jumped on top early when Drew Garcia walked in the first and scored on a two-out double off the left-field wall by Conor Jackson. Jackson was 2-for-3 on the day with a walk and he is 12-for-20 on the current homestand.
Gwinnett outfielder Felix Pie tied things up in the top of the second with a solo-homer. Pie had a homer and a double in the series opener with two RBI and three runs scored.
The Braves took the lead in the visitors' fourth when Ernesto Mejia hit his own solo shot to dead center to give Gwinnett a 2-1 advantage.
Braves pitching prospect and 2011 IL Rookie of the Year Julio Teheran (6-5, 5.16) got the start and only allowed one run on three hits over five innings. He did walk five batters, including walking the bases loaded in the fourth.
Charlotte knotted things up at 2-2 in the eighth inning with a bloop base hit down the left-field line off the bat of Hector Gimenez that scored Dan Johnson from second base. Johnson was 2-for-3 on the day with a walk.
Scott Carroll started for the Knights and only surrendered two runs on four hits over six innings, while striking out four. He did not factor in the decision.
During the game, the White Sox announced that they purchased the contract of Charlotte infielder Ray Olmedo. Olmedo, 31, hit .273 with the Knights over 80 games this season.
Game 3 of the series is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. on Monday. RHP Charlie Shirek (9-4, 3.68) is set to take the hill for Charlotte and be opposed by LHP Sean Gilmartin (5-8, 3.54) for the Braves.
