More Milestones Loom for Islanders Players as They Battle Moose

Another mid-week home game is on the horizon tonight as the Charlottetown Islanders look to continue their winning ways against the Halifax Mooseheads with a few players sitting on career milestones.

The Islanders (32-5-0-0) currently sit atop the QMJHL standings, just a handful of percentage points above the second-place Val d'Or Foreurs. They're coming off a Sunday afternoon 7-3 victory over the Cape Breton Eagles, one where the team had to come from behind after the first period to grind out the victory. Noah Laaouan and Brett Budgell both reached career milestones of 100 career QMJHL points and 200 career QMJHL games respectively, while Cédric Desruisseaux established a franchise record 22-game point streak and became the first player in Islanders history to reach to 40-goal plateau in a season.

Those aren't the only two milestones Desruisseaux is coming up on; the high-scoring forward is just five points away from 200 in his QMJHL career. The Warwick, QC product is also just two goals from 10o career goals and three assists from 100 career assists. Meanwhile, forward Patrick Guay sits just one point away from 100 in his career. The Magog, QC forward has been a pillar of consistency since arriving in Charlottetown, having produced at nearly a point-per-game pace since his first game on PEI.

Elsewhere, Lukas Cormier recently passed Pierre-Olivier Joseph as the highest-scoring defenseman in Islanders history, currently sitting at 121 career points. He still has a ways to go before he reaches the franchise record of 193 established by PEI Rocket defender Marc-Andre Gragnani.

In Halifax, the Mooseheads (15-17-5-4) will hope to have close to a full lineup at their disposal today as they return to Charlottetown for another game at the Eastlink Centre. The Moose did not have top scorers Elliot Desnoyers and Zachary L'Heureux in the last matchup between the two teams as Desnoyers was a late scratch and L'Heureux served the second of a two-game suspension. L'Heureux will be in action while Desnoyers' status remains unknown.
