Clearwater Threshers News Release

Angelo Mora tallied three more hits on Monday night, but Clearwater's late rally fell short in a 7-4 loss in the series finale at Daytona.

The Threshers (25-26) plated two runs in the ninth and brought the go-ahead run to the plate with two down, but Daytona (31-20) managed to hold on to take the series, two game to one.

Clearwater now sits six games back of the Tortugas with 19 left to play in the first half.

Mora singled three times on Monday, finishing off a series in which he hit a scorching 9-for-13 (.692). The 22-year old infielder has a hit in six straight contests, and is batting .410 over his last ten games.

Chace Numata singled and stole second to start up the offense in the second inning, and Devin Lohman reached on an infield hit to set up men at the corners with one down. A passed ball brought home the game's first run, with Numata crossing the plate to make it 1-0 Threshers.

Victor Arano (0-6) worked through three scoreless before Daytona evened it up in the fourth inning. With one out, Sebastian Elizalde tripled, and Robert Ramirez doubled to tie the game.

The fifth inning proved to be trouble for Arano, with Junior Arias giving the Tortugas the lead on a two-out, two-run homer to left. A single, wild pitch, and walk followed, and Cody Forsythe came on in relief of Arano.

A Ramirez triple brought home two more runs to make it 5-1 Daytona.

Arano would be charged with five runs on seven hits and one walk in his 4.2 innings. 12 of the 29 runs he has allowed this year have come in the fifth inning.

Clearwater inched closer after a Drew Stankiewicz RBI groundout in the seventh, but the Tortugas rebounded with two of their own in the home half to boost their advantage to 7-2.

The Threshers mounted one last attempt in the ninth, after Numata and Aaron Brown opened the frame with back-to-back singles.

Following a fielder's choice, Mitch Walding lifted a sac fly to center to plate Numata, and Stankiewicz reached on an error. El'Hajj Muhammad entered in relief, and walked Chase Harris to load the bases.

Mora grounded a single through to right to push home Brown, and put the tying run on base. Muhammad would then get Andrew Pullin to strike out to end the game.

Clearwater will return home to host the Dunedin Blue Jays on Dollar Tuesday, presented by Regions Bank. Mark Leiter, Jr. (3-1) will take the hill against the Blue Jays' Jairo Labourt (1-3). First pitch is set for 7 p.m., and the call can be heard live on threshersbaseball.com beginning at 6:45 p.m.
