Mooseheads add 15 players at QMJHL draft

The Halifax Mooseheads added 15 players to their Quebec Major Junior Hockey League protected list at the league's annual entry draft at Chicoutimi, QC today.
The Mooseheads chose 16-year-old defenceman Ben MacAskill from Cape Breton West Major Midgets of the Nova Scotia Major Midget League with their first selection, in round one, 17th overall. Then added two more 16-year-old prospects with their next two picks, Logan MacMillan, from Notre Dame College, Wilcox, SK in round two (34) and Daniel Smith, from the Phoenix Firebirds MAAA team, in round three (48). Their remain 13 selections were 17-year olds.
In all, the Mooseheads claimed 10 forwards, four defencemen and one goaltender with their 15 picks.
In addition to MacAskill, Halifax picked three other players, Matt Carroll (round 6-103) and Andrew Joudrey (round 10-179) both from Pictou County, plus Mitchell Wallace (round 14-250) of Cole Harbour, from the Nova Scotia Major Midget League.
Halifax also claimed three U.S. players, Smith, Yuri Cheremetiev (round 3-53) from Stoughton High School, Stoughton, MA and Austin Mayer (round 12-215) from Moses Brown High School, Providence, RI.
Two choices, Neil Chabot from Gatineau and Billy Tsekos from West Island, came from the Quebec Midget AAA League.
