Fog Devils complete first ever entry draft

The St. John's Fog Devils Hockey Club completed the first QMJHL Midget Entry Draft in franchise history by selecting 14 players today.

The Fog Devils had the 2nd overall pick in today's draft, but traded it to the Acadie-Bathurst Titans for the 4th Overall pick and the Titans' 1st Round Pick in the 2006 Midget Draft. With the 4th Overall selection the Fog Devils chose Quebec native Jean Simon Allard, making him the first ever selection by the expansion Fog Devils.

After Allard, the Fog Devils selected PEI native Josh MacKinnon (2nd pick, 19th overall), a defenceman who played with Summerside (Jr A) last season. The Fog Devils chose Nova Scotia native Matt Fillier (3rd pick, 38th overall) with its 3rd choice. Fillier played with Weeks Pictou County (Midget AAA) last year.

The Fog Devils also selected six (6) Newfoundland natives, including four (4) Newfoundland picks in a row, during this year's draft. The highest selection was Matt Boland, who was the club's 4th choice, 55th overall. Boland, a defenceman, played with the St. John's "AAA" Maple Leafs last year. Other Newfoundlanders selected include Bradley Dyke (G - 7th choice, 127th overall - Western Kings), Pat O'Keefe (D - 8th choice, 146th overall - St. John's "AAA" Maple Leafs), Paul Roebathan (W - 9th choice, 163rd overall - Cumberland Jr A), Ryan Smith (W - 10th choice, 182nd overall - St. John's "AAA" Maple Leafs) and Coady Roach (W - 13th choice, 135th overall - Tri Pen).

Other Draft Highlights include:

• Of the six (6) Newfoundlanders selected three (3) played with the St. John's "AAA" Midget Maple Leafs.

• Positional Breakdown for the Entry Draft includes two (2) goaltenders, five (5) defencemen, two (2) centers and five (5) wingers.

• Regional Breakdown includes six (6) Newfoundlanders, three (3) players from Quebec, two (2) players from Nova Scotia, one (1) player from New Brunswick, one (1) player from PEI and one (1) from the USA.

• Of the 12 players chosen (not including goaltenders), six (6) shoot right and six (6) shoot left.

• The Fog Devils made its first trade in franchise history when it flipped picks with the Titans. The club made its' 2nd move when it traded the 6th pick (91st overall) to the Quebec Remparts in exchange for winder Maxime Lincourt.

The St. John's Fog Devils are the newest member of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and are one of 58 member clubs of the Canadian Hockey League. The franchise begins its inaugural season in September 2005.

Season Ticket information is currently available at the Fog Devils website (www.fogdevils.com). Former Season Ticket Holders of the St. John's Maple Leafs are currently being given first right to their seats until June 8. After this dates, Season Tickets will be available to the public.
