Moose Complete Season Sweep of Quebec
February 26, 2023 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Halifax Mooseheads News Release
Starting for the third consecutive day, goalie Mathis Rousseau didn't just give his team a chance to win, he made 33 saves to lead the Mooseheads to a 4-3 victory over the Quebec Remparts as the Herd finished a tough road trip with wins in two of the three games.
Rousseau and the Mooseheads withstood a third period rally from the QMJHL's top ranked team with the Remparts rallying back from a 4-0 deficit to make it an extremely close finish. The Halifax goalie out-dueled his counterpart William Rousseau to break a tie between the two netminders for the league lead in wins with 29.
Attilio Biasca was named the first star of the game after scoring two goals just 12 seconds apart in the first period to put the Moose up by a pair. His two goals are the second fastest two goals scored by the same player in team history. Keith Getson set the record in 2019 with two goals in eight seconds. Biasca added a third point when he assisted on an Evan Boucher breakaway goal by spotting the forward coming out of the penalty box and sending the perfect pass onto the tape of Boucher who went five-hole. Josh Lawrence also scored in the game when he buried a beautiful shorthanded tally and Halifax held a 4-0 lead through 40 minutes of action.
Back-to-back goals from Attilio Biasca 12 seconds apart. His 18th & 19th of the season.
Assists: Lawrence, Schultz.
Quebec mounted a comeback in the final 20 minutes of regulation as the rigorous road trip against three top teams started to take its toll on the Mooseheads players. Zachary Bolduc broke Rousseau's shutout bid 7:05 into the third period and then struck again on the power play a few minutes later to cut the Remparts deficit to 4-2. Quebec fired 15 shots on goal in the final period and kept pushing as time wound down with defenceman Jeremy Langlois scoring one more to make for a tight finish but the home team couldn't find the equalizer with coach Patrick Roy pulling his goalie with about two minutes remaining.
For the Mooseheads, the victory was their 40th of the season marking the 10th time the feat has been accomplished in franchise history. The win is just another statement by the Herd who continue to show they are deserving of their second overall place in the standings, despite some Quebec media suggesting otherwise. The Moose also defeated the Remparts 2-1 in a shootout at Scotiabank Centre back on January 14th.
Zachary L'Heureux served the seventh game of a 10-game suspension while injuries or illness kept Jake Todd, Logan Crosby and Cam Whynot out of the lineup.
The next home game for the Mooseheads is scheduled for Thursday, March 2nd against the Saint John Sea Dogs. Thursdays are Student Nights in Moose Country with tickets just $10 for fans with student ID. Halifax will also host Acadie-Bathurst on Sunday, March 5th in a make-up game for the postponed contest from February 17th. Tickets from the postponed game will be honoured in Sunday's make-up game. Tickets are on sale now at TicketAtlantic.com.
