Sioux Falls Canaries News Release

SIOUX FALLS - Sioux Falls Pheasants pitcher Ben Moore has won numerous accolades in his outstanding career, but one award has evaded him until now: Pitcher of the Week.

The American Association announced on Monday that Ben Moore was named Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week for July 17 - 23. The selection was made by Pointstreak, the official statistician of the American Association.

In two starts, Moore twice beat the first-place Winnipeg Goldeyes, including a two-hitter on July 23 at Sioux Falls Stadium. The feat had been accomplished only one time prior in franchise history. Overall in both outings he allowed just two runs and five hits total in 14 innings while striking out 18 batters.

"He certainly deserves this accolade," Pheasants manager Steve Shirley. "He pitched a couple of great games, and he is obviously is one of the best pitchers in the league."

Moore is 10-2 overall this season and won his last six starts. He is tied for the league lead in wins, and he leads all league starters with a 2.23 ERA and 90 strikeouts.

The Pheasants have won their last four games and open a three-game series tonight with the Gary SouthShore Railcats at 7:10 p.m. in Gary, Ind. The Pheasants return home on Thursday, July 28, to face the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks when Moore is next slated to start.
