Sioux Falls Canaries News Release

SIOUX FALLS - Sioux Falls Pheasants pitcher Ben Moore has been named the Rawlings Pitcher of the Month for July, the American Association announced on Tuesday. The selection was made by Pointstreak, the official statistician of the American Association.

Moore's July was outstanding. In five starts, the right-hander was a perfect 4-0 with a 2.00 ERA, including a complete-game, two-hit victory with 10 strikeouts against the Winnipeg Goldeyes on July 23. In 36 innings pitched, Moore amassed 32 strikeouts and allowed just eight runs. He turned in nine innings in each of his last two starts.

"I'm not surprised that Ben earned this award," Pheasants manager Steve Shirley said. "He pitched some fantastic ball games last month. He is well-deserving of the honor."

Moore even overcame a contusion on his throwing shoulder after a direct hit from a batted ball on July 12. The injury limited his next start on July 17 to just five innings, but he still earned the victory and struck out eight in a 4-1 defeat of Winnipeg.

Moore has not lost since June 19. He is 6-0 in seven starts since then.

Overall, Moore is second in wins with a 10-2 mark and leads the league in strikeouts (95) and ERA (2.39). When Moore fans five more hitters, it will be his fifth consecutive season with 100 or more strikeouts. Moore is also one victory shy of matching a career high in wins. It would be just the eighth time a Sioux Falls pitcher has notched at least 11 victories, a feat Moore accomplished in 2010.

Moore is in his fourth season with Sioux Falls. He is scheduled to start at 7:05 p.m. tonight against the St. Paul Saints at Sioux Falls Stadium. It is Double Play Tuesday. Tickets are two for the price of one. Fans can purchase tickets in person at the Pheasants' box office or online at www.sfpheasants.com.
