MoonDogs Sweep the Border Cats

MANKATO, Minn.--The Mankato MoonDogs Baseball Club, a member of the Northwoods League, is pleased to announce a three game sweep over the Thunder Bay Border Cats with a final 3-1 victory Friday at Franklin Rodgers Park.
With the temperature rising at the Frank, the MoonDogs bats continued to heat up. Chase Fowler (Southern Mississippi) led the offense of attack going 2-3 at the plate with two runs scored boosting his season average to .308.
The 'Dogs collected a total of nine hits on the day, but stranded 11 men on base. Either way the MoonDogs advanced to 8-2 overall and are tied for first place with the Waterloo Bucks for the top spot in the North Division.
MoonDogs starter Matt McDaniel (Quincy) made his final start of the season improving to 2-0 after going 5 2/3 innings on the hill allowing one run on five hits while striking out four. The southpaw finished his short season posting a 0.77 ERA. McDaniel unfortunately leaves the team after being shut down by Quincy College for reaching his pitch limit for the year.
Kacy Kemmer (Austin Peay) pitched well in the loss for Thunder Bay, allowing two unearned runs on eight hits while striking out four MoonDogs batters. In the loss (0-1), the right-hander lowered his season ERA to 1.17.
The MoonDogs wrap up their home stretch at the Frank against the Rochester Honkers Saturday at 6:05 p.m. Piggy Bank giveaway and Quarter Drop presented by Minnesota Valley Federal Credit Union and Minnesota 93 will be the game day promotion. The first 250 kids 12 and under will receive a piggy bank and will be allowed to come onto the field post game and hunt for quarters courtesy of Minnesota Valley Federal Credit Union.
