Rochester Honkers News Release

(Rochester, MN) - The Honkers couldn't produce much offensively on Friday night falling to the Duluth Huskies by a final score of 9-1 to lose the series two games to one.

Rochester native Brandon Zywicki (Central Arizona) started on the mound for the Honkers, but only lasted 1.0 inning after surrendering six runs on five hits and two walks. With the loss, Zywicki evens his record at 1-1.

Duluth starting pitcher Austin Perez (Stetson) tossed 5.0 innings of one-run baseball to improve his record to 3-0 on the year. Perez struck out three Honkers batters and walked two.

After Rochester reliever Carl O'Neal (St. Mary's TX) gave up three runs over 3.2 innings, outfielder Trevor Robertson (Three Rivers CC) came on to pitch the final 3.1 innings to help save arms for the Honkers, and was in dominant form. Robertson did not give up a run and struck out three in his first appearance of the 2012 season.

Offensively for the Honkers, center fielder Dakota Smith (Kansas) continues his hot hitting collecting two more hits tonight and finishing 2 for 4 with a run scored. Third baseman Michael Benjamin (Arizona State) went 2 for 5.

Ben Lahn (Lamar CC), Redi Roper (Illinois), Matt Halloran (Minnesota), and Jared Allen (Tennessee) collected one hit each for Rochester.

After their second series loss in a row, the Honkers (4-6) travel to Mankato on Saturday to take on the Moon Dogs (8-2) at Franklin Rogers Park. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM. On the hill for the Honkers will be right hander Elliot Engle (Doane), who is 1-1.
