
Montreal Signs Forward Max Pacioretty

MONTREAL, Quebec - Montreal Canadiens General Manager Bob Gainey announced today the signing of forward Max Pacioretty to a three-year contract (2008-2009 to 2010-2011). As per club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"Max Pacioretty is a young player with a lot of skills who has the potential to play in the NHL. We are very happy to have him under contract for years to come. We feel he is ready to make the jump to professional hockey, and we will make sure to provide him with all the resources which will benefit his long-term development as a player,'' said Bob Gainey.
Pacioretty, 19, was selected in the first round, 22nd overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2007 National Hockey League Entry Draft. Last season, his freshman campaign in the National Collegiate Athletic Association with the University of Michigan of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association, the 6'2", 199-pound left-winger played in 37 games with the Wolverines and finished second on the team in power-play goals (9) and plus / minus rating (+31), third in shots on goal (109), tied for third in goals (15), and fourth in assists (24), points (39) and penalty minutes (59).
A native of New Canaan, Connecticut, Pacioretty was selected as the CCHA's Rookie of the Year and was named to both the CCHA's and the College Hockey News' All-Rookie Teams after finishing fifth in the NCAA's rookie scoring race with 39 points in 2007-2008. Pacioretty was also a member of the United States of America's National Team, which finished fourth at the 2008 International Ice Hockey Federation's World Under-20 Hockey Championships in the Czech Republic.
At the junior level, Pacioretty played two seasons with the United States Hockey League's Sioux City Musketeers from 2004 to 2006. In his second season with the Club, he scored produced 63 points (21 goals, 42 assists) in 60 games and was selected as the USHL's Rookie of the Year and named to the USHL's All-Rookie Team.
Pacioretty recently participated in his second development camp with Montreal and will attend his first professional training camp with Canadiens in September.

More than 84 percent of today's NHL players are AHL graduates, and for the seventh year in a row, more than six million fans attended AHL games across North America in 2007-2008.
