Montreal Signs David Desharnais

MONTREAL, QC - Montreal Canadiens General Manager Bob Gainey announced today that forward David Desharnais has been signed to a two-year, two-way contract (2008-2009 - 2009-2010). As per club policy, financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Desharnais, 22, has played in all 11 of the Hamilton Bulldogs games this season recording nine points (three goals, six assists) while being a plus-2 in his rookie campaign. Last season with the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL, the Quebec City native registered a league-leading 106 points (29 goals, 77 assists) in 68 games and was named the ECHL's Most Valuable Player and Rookie of the Year. He helped the Cyclones to their first Kelly Cup Championship after leading the ECHL in points with 33 (nine goals, 24 assists) in 22 post-season games.

Prior to last season, the 5-foot-6, 177-pound centre played in a total of 262 regular season games with the Chicoutimi Sagueneens in the QMJHL where he registered 374 points (126 goals, 248 assists) from 2003-2007 during his four seasons with the team.

The Bulldogs look to continue their winning streak when they welcome the Houston Aeros to Copps Coliseum on Friday, November 7th, for a 7:30 p.m. match-up. The Toronto Marlies visit Copps Coliseum for the first time this season on Saturday, November 8th for a 7:00 p.m. battle with the 'Dogs.
