LOWELL, MA - Jared Ross scored twice and Steve Downie set up two goals, leading the Philadelphia Phantoms to a 3-1 win over the Lowell Devils at Tsongas Arena on Wednesday night. The win was Philadelphia's fifth in a row and the 500th in the franchise's history.

After a scoreless first period, Patrick Maroon started the scoring with 8:38 left to go in the second. He took a pass from Downie in the left circle and floated a wrister that beat Lowell goaltender David Caruso over his glove for the 1-0 lead.

As the second period wound down, the Phantoms grabbed a goal literally almost at the last second. Downie carried a puck into the left circle and sent it into the slot for Ross, whose wrister beat Caruso with exactly two seconds left on the clock. The late marker gave the Phantoms a 2-0 lead at the first intermission.

The Devils got on the board 1:44 into the third period when Alexander Vasyunov scored off a feed from Ryan Murphy. But the Phantoms got that goal back with 9:29 to play while on a power play. Danny Syvret fired a slapshot that Caruso stopped, and Ross buried the rebound to make it 3-1.

Jean-Sebastien Aubin took the win for Philadelphia with 31 saves on 32 shots. Caruso absorbed the loss with 33 saves on 36 bids.

The game was the fourth in a row in which the Phantoms have scored at least one power play goal. Also, Downie's two assists give him six helpers in his last two Phantoms games. All six have been the primary assist on the goal in question.

This week's tour of the AHL's Atlantic Division continues in Manchester on Friday, Portland on Saturday and Providence on Sunday. All games will be broadcast live on Phantomshockey.com through AHL Live, with fans able to access the audio-only broadcast for free and the video broadcast for just $6.
