Edinburg Roadrunners News Release
EDINBURG, Texas- Despite a great outing from the Edinburg Coyotes' starting pitcher Eric Montoya, it still wasn't enough to defeat the first place team of the ULB as they go down to the Amarillo Dillas 3-2 Sunday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
Montoya (2-2) kept the Coyotes (9-15) in the game by striking out 14 batters through eight innings of work but still managed to get the loss after a pour offensive outing by his team. Micah Posey (4-0) got the win for the Dillas as he struck out eight batters through six innings of work. Drew Jackson picked up his fourth save of the season. The Coyotes gathered only five hits with 33 AB. Montoya didn't allow much either as the Dillas only tallied seven hits with 35 AB.
The Dillas (16-6) drew first blood in the first inning after Gary Schneidmiller scored on a wild pitch by Montoya giving them a 1-0 lead.
In the fourth inning, Dillas outfielder Jonathan Reynoso was walked and was brought home on a two-run homer by Keith Brachold to push the lead to 3-0.
The Coyotes pulled within one in the bottom of the fifth after Daryl Jones hit two run RBI double to left field bringing in Amado German from third and Angelo Fermin from second.
Both teams played excellent defense allowing no runs in the final four innings and the Dillas captured their sixth straight victory.
The Coyotes will take on the Dillas in Game 2 tomorrow night at 7:05. It will be Luca Pizza "Buyout Night" tomorrow meaning free admission for everyone.
