
Broncos Use The Long Ball to Defeat San Angelo

San Angelo, TX-The Laredo Broncos hit 3 home runs including a grand slam to beat the San Angelo Colts by a score of 12-4 on Sunday night at Foster Field. The Broncos continue on their 6 game trip with the 2nd game of a 3 game series with the San Angelo Colts on Monday night. For more information you can call (956)-723-BASE (2273).
The Broncos got the scoring going in a big way in the top of the 2nd inning. Arnoldo Ponce led off the inning with a single and would go to 2nd base on a walk to Ivan Reyes. Then with one out Anthony Bennett would single to load the bases. Dwayne White would follow with a single of his own scoring Ponce. Then Eric Padilla would single scoring Reyes. Luany Sanchez would come up and hit a sacrifce fly making the score 3-0. Edgard Clemente would follow the sac fly with a infield single loading the bases again. Santiago Guerrero would then hit a grand slam home run, his first homer of the season. Arnoldo Ponce would then follow with a solo homer, his 1st of the season giving the Broncos an 8-0 lead and chasing starter Ryan Mulle from the game.
The Colts would get some of those back in the bottom of the 2nd against Laredo's starter Andy Schon. With one out Benny Craig hit a solo home run, his 5th of the season. Then with two outs Jose Torres would single, and Aaron Cone would follow with a double advancing Torres to 3rd. Charley Belew would then hit a bloop single scoring both runners and making the score 8-3.
The Broncos would add on some more runs in the top of the 4th inning. Luany Sanchez led off the inning with a double and advanced to 3rd on a wild pitch by reliever Billy McKinney. Edgard Clemente would ground out but would knock in Sanchez. Then with 2 outs Arnoldo Ponce walked and he would score on a 2 run home run by Ivan Reyes his 6th of the season giving Laredo a 11-3 lead.
The Colts would get 1 run in the bottom of the 4th inning on a solo home run by Jose Torres his 3rd of the season making the score 11-4.
The Broncos would tack on one more run in the top of the 8th inning. Edgard Clemente singled to lead off the inning. Then Arnoldo Ponce doubled moving Clemente to 3rd. Ivan Reyes would then walk to load the bases. Josh Morrison would then hit a sac fly scoring Clemente making the score 12-4.
Andy Schon pitched well for the Broncos. He went 7 innings giving up 4 runs on 6 hit. Schon walked only 1 batter and struck out 7.
Justin Staatz came in the game in the 8th inning and pitched a scoreless inning. Nathan Crawford would come into the game in the 9th inning and pitch a scoreless inning as well giving the Broncos a 12-4 victory.
The Broncos scored 12 runs on 19 hits and committed 0 errors, while the Colts scored 4 runs on 8 hits and committed 0 errors.
The Broncos now improve to 13-11 on the season. The Broncos will be back in action on Monday night in San Angelo to play the middle game of a 3 game set against the Colts at 7:05.
