
Montgomery Stops Generals Winning Streak At Four

JACKSON, Tenn. - Montgomery's (24-31) offense exploded and stopped the Generals (26-26) four-game winning streak taking game five of the series, 8-2. The Generals were in search for their first five-game sweep since 2011, before Curtis Casali and Mikie Mahtook combined for four runs and five RBIs in the affair. The duo either plated or scored every Biscuit run.
After a quiet first inning, back-to-back doubles plated the first Biscuit in the second. Then, in the third, Montgomery continued their attack with back-to-back home runs, first by Mikie Mahtook, then followed by Curtis Casali.
The Generals struck for one of their own in the fourth. Jackson's third basemen Ramon Morla (1-4, 3B, R) smashed a triple into the right field alley to set up the lone run. Ji-Man Choi (2-2, RBI, BB) brought him home with a sacrifice fly to center. After four innings, Montgomery led 3-1.
The Biscuits added three more runs in the fifth that started with back-to-back walks. After advancing into scoring position with the double steal, O'Malley and Mahtook sprinted home thanks to a deep double to center by Casali. Kyeong Kang's triple plated the final run of the inning. A total of three runs crossed in the fifth, making the score 6-1.
Montgomery scored its final runs in the seventh and eighth innings. The first run was courtesy of Kang and the second was thanks to Mahtook.
John Hicks (0-3, R, BB) scored in the ninth on a Chris Taylor single, but the run didn't mean much to the deficit. The final was 8-2.
Jackson stranded eight runners on base and went 1-for-5 with runners in scoring position.
Anthony Vasquez (L, 1-3) suffered the loss on the for Jackson and Marquis Fleming (W, 4-5) picked up his fourth win, second as a starter. Moises Hernandez (5.92) tossed three innings, allowing two runs and Kyle Hunter (1.05) threw a scoreless ninth.
Jackson will travel to Mobile, Ala. To begin seven-game series in five days starting on Sunday. First pitch is set for 5:05 p.m. CT at Hank Aaron Stadium. Game one starter for Jackson is LHP James Gillheeney (8-6, 3.95) and RHP Bradin Hagens (10-7, 3.37) starts for Mobile.
