Mississippi Braves News Release
PEARL, MS -- The Montgomery Biscuits jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead in the first three frames en route to a 9-3 victory over the Mississippi Braves Tuesday night at Trustmark Park. With the Biscuits' win, Montgomery evened the series at two games apiece, forcing a rubber match in Wednesday's 11:00 AM series finale.
Mississippi (19-19) scored three runs on eight hits while Montgomery (21-17) plated nine runs on 13 hits. Elmer Reyes and Seth Loman had two hits apiece for the M-Braves. Taylor Motter led the Biscuits with three hits, two runs scored and two RBI.
The Biscuits jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first. Ryan Brett and Motter reached on back-to-back singles to start the frame. Willie Argo followed with a RBI-single to left and then Jeremy Moore reached on a fielder's choice, allowing another run to score. Jake Hager later grounded out to extend the Biscuits lead.
Montgomery added three more in the second to chase M-Braves starter J.R. Graham from the game. Joey Rickard singled, stole second and moved to third on a ground out. Motter drove him in with a single to right. Cameron Seitzer walked and both runners stole a bag. Argo then delivered a two-run double to put the Biscuits up 6-0.
Jeff Malm doubled and scored on Luke Maile's single to center, giving the Biscuits a 7-0 lead in the third.
The M-Braves made it a 7-2 game in the bottom of the third. Emerson Landoni singled and scored on Barrett Kleinknecht's double to left. An errant throw by the shortstop allowed Kleinknecht to advance to third. Mycal Jones then laid down a sacrifice bunt to plate Kleinknecht.
In the bottom of the fourth, Reyes doubled and Loman singled to put runners at the corners. A Matt Kennelly sacrifice fly brought Reyes home to cut the Biscuits lead to 7-3.
Maile singled and Rickard walked to start the sixth. Motter then singled to center, driving home Maile. After an intentional walk to Seitzer, Argo delivered a sacrifice fly to right field, allowing Rickard to score and extend Montgomery's lead to 9-3.
Roberto Gomez (1-0) worked five innings, limiting the M-Braves to three runs and two earned runs on just five hits. He struck out one batter and picked up the win. Graham (0-2) gave up six earned runs on six hits and a walk. He struck out one in 1.2 innings of work and took the loss.
In the series finale against the Biscuits, the M-Braves send right-hander Jason Hursh (2-2, 3.41) to the hill against Montgomery righty Michael Colla (1-4, 4.84). First pitch is set for 11:00 AM. Gates open at 9:30 AM.
