Montgomery Biscuits News Release
PENSACOLA, Flo. - The Biscuits (58-50/30-16) defeated the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (51-58/22-23) in the series opener 9-5 Tuesday night at Riverwalk Stadium to move to three wins in a row and eight wins in their last 10 games. Pensacola got the ball rolling early, but it was Montgomery that finished on top scoring seven unanswered runs.
Pensacola starter, Zack King (1-4) started his outing on the right track, impressively retiring the Biscuits side one-two-three with a pair of strikeouts. Biscuits starter Michael Mercado (3-6) started his night off in similar fashion also going one-two-three to retire the side.
Biscuits outfielder Niko Hulsizer had himself a day as he drove in five RBIs and was a major force as he got his feet back under him. In the second inning, Hulsizer would be responsible for the games first score and two runs for the Biscuits as he connected on a soft two-run RBI-single to put Montgomery up 2-0.
In the bottom of the second, Pensacola outfielder Davis Bradshaw delivered a game-tying RBI-double to keep it close 2-2. In the bottom of the third, Pensacola got back in control and obtained the lead as designated hitter Norel Gonzalez connected for an RBI-double to go up 3-2. Moments later, catcher Paul McIntosh smashed a two-run home run to left field to make it a three-run game, 5-2.
Montgomery wasted no time answering back and tying the game in the next inning. In the top of the fourth, Hulsizer brought another run to cut the lead down to two with a groundout that scored Kameron Misner. Later, first baseman Evan Edwards struck an RBI-single and advanced to second after a throwing error by Blue Wahoos shortstop Nasim Nunez. The Biscuits were able to tie the game at five after left fielder Diego Infante struck another RBI-single.
In the fifth, the Biscuits were able to take the lead after a wild pitch from Zack Leban scored Biscuits shortstop Greg Jones. In the sixth and eighth innings Montgomery put the final nails in the coffin with a pair of home runs. Infante scored a solo shot to center to make it 7-5, and the "Bronze Bomber" Hulsizer got his fourth and fifth RBI of the game and 14th home run of the season to extend it to 9-5.
Biscuits reliever Cody Reed recorded his first win as Pensacola Zack Leban earned his second loss of the season. Montgomery will look to make it four in a row Wednesday when RHP Sean Hunley (4-1) duels RHP Cody Mincey (5-4) at 6:35 PM CT.
