Monterey Bay Hosts Orange County SC on Breast Cancer Awareness Night in Regular Season Finale at Cardinale Stadium

Monterey Bay FC News Release

SEASIDE, California - Monterey Bay F.C. (11-14-8, 41 points) returns to action Saturday with a must-win showdown at home against Orange County SC (16-11-6, 54 points) in the final week of the 2023 USL Championship regular season. The match is set to kickoff at 7:00 p.m. PT and will be broadcast locally on KION (46 & 23 over the air, 46 Dish, 27 DirecTV and 5/705 HD Xfinity), with live streaming available on Hulu, YouTubeTV, FuboTV, and ESPN+.

Everything is on the line for the Crisp-and-Kelp in this weekend's regular season home finale as Monterey Bay looks to extend its sophomore campaign with a subsequent playoff run. Doing so requires a win over Orange County SC in the friendly confines of Cardinale Stadium, essentially morphing the match into a playoff game of its own.

The one catch is that the Union could be eliminated before ever stepping foot on the pitch Saturday night if New Mexico manages to defeat visiting Memphis the night before. However, if Memphis - who needs a point to secure a home playoff game - can scrap out a win or at the very least a draw in Albuquerque on Friday night, then the Union will officially have 90 minutes to decide their playoff fate for themselves - win and Monterey Bay is in.

"We are still right there so that's good, but on the other side it's not fully in our hands so there's mixed feelings. But we're going to do everything that we can to make sure that we get into the playoffs," said Monterey Bay goalkeeper Carlos Herrera. "There's belief in the group. We have a belief that things will still go our way Friday and that we'll be giving it our all in front of our home crowd to get in on Saturday. Our fans are going to be important. It's been a very long season, so having that extra energy from the fans helps us a lot more than they may think."

Earlier this season, Monterey Bay and Orange County SC met in Irvine, California on July 1 at Championship Soccer Stadium. Despite the Union leading 1-0 through 70 minutes, Orange County's late in-game adjustments paid off with three unanswered goals to steal a 3-1 win on the night the club celebrated its 10-year anniversary. That occasion also marked the first time the Union had conceded a single goal to Orange County after shutting them out in both matches last season. Overall, the Crisp-and-Kelp own the all-time head-to-head over Orange County with a 2-1-0 record and a 4-3 goal difference, including a 1-0-0 record in Seaside.
