Monterey Bay F.C. Battles Defending Eastern Conference Champions at Cardinale Stadium
March 17, 2023 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Monterey Bay FC News Release
SEASIDE, California - Monterey Bay F.C. (1-0-0, 3 points) returns to action Saturday for a 7 p.m. PT kickoff at home against Louisville City FC (1-0-0, 3 points) in Week 2 of the 2023 USL Championship regular season. Saturday's match will be broadcast locally via KION on Central Coast CW (35.1 over the air, channel 14 Xfinity), with live streaming available on ESPN+.
The Crisp and Kelp and the boys in purple last met on May 21, 2022 at Lynn Family Stadium in Louisville, Kentucky, where the match ended in a surprise 2-0 shutout victory for Monterey Bay F.C. to become the first USL Championship expansion side to win in Louisville since 2019. Mobi Fehr and Sam Gleadle scored for the Union in the match and Dallas Jaye earned the clean sheet on the night. With last season's win, MBFC currently owns an all-time 1-0-0 record over LouCity, with the first meeting between the sides at Cardinale Stadium set to take place on Saturday.
It's early in the 2023 campaign, but this weekend's matchup will be a battle of number one seeds as both Monterey Bay F.C. and Louisville City FC currently sit atop their respective conferences ahead of kickoff. The Crisp and Kelp will look to double down on their success against LouCity so far and officially put the rest of the league on notice, while the boys in purple will come into Seaside with retribution on the mind. "Louisville is a big team in this league, they have always done well, they have the nice stadium - it's always exciting to play a team like that," said Gleadle. "Last year we went into their place and stole three points, so they are going to be coming with a lot of energy and sort of a revenge feeling. It's early in the season so it's good to play a top opponent. We are excited to have them at our place and hopefully we can come out with three points."
