Monterey Bay FC News Release
SEASIDE, Calif. - Monterey Bay F.C. announced today that the club has agreed to terms with Jesús "Chuy" Enríquez on a one-year contract, pending league and federation approval. Enríquez gives the Crisp and Kelp another attacking option ahead of the Club's interconference clash with Louisville City FC this weekend.
"Chuy has got a bit of experience in the league already. I thought he had a good 2021 season with Oakland, he had a few goals and assists and was productive there," said Monterey Bay F.C. Sporting Director and Head Coach Frank Yallop. "They had a great run to make the Western Conference Semifinals and he was a big part of that. I had been chatting to him for a while through a couple of our players that knew him from RGV and Oakland. Now he's come in and has fit in easily here. I think he will be a good addition to our attacking group."
From Redwood City, California, Enríquez joined the Club Tijuana youth academy in 2016. Two years later, he signed his first professional contract with Championship side Rio Grande Valley FC and recorded 10 goals and nine assists in 61 appearances over two seasons with the Toros. Following brief stints with San Antonio FC and Reno 1868, Chuy returned to California to join Oakland Roots SC.
While with the Roots in both the 2021 and 2022 seasons, Enríquez scored a total of four goals and tallied four assists in 44 appearances, including goals in both of the final two must-win regular season games to aid in Oakland clinching the final playoff spot in 2021. He then bagged the game-winning assist in Roots SC's win over El Paso Locomotive FC in the 2021 Western Conference Quarterfinals. Now in 2023, the 25-year-old has made his way down the coast to Seaside to join Monterey Bay.
"First of all I want to thank the team and their staff for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to represent this club," said Enríquez. "I'm really excited to be here and will do my best to help this club achieve big things. I have been here for a couple weeks now and the players and everyone around have made me feel at home. The team started with a great win last weekend and we will keep that going and take things step by step. My personal goal is to help the team make the playoffs and go for it all. We have a great group of guys that have what it takes to make it happen. I can't wait to get started."
