
Montano's Go-Ahead Single Lifts Yard Goats to Win

Hartford, Conn - Daniel Montano broke a 2-2 tie with a two-out, go-ahead single in the fifth inning, helping the Hartford Yard Goats to a 7-4 victory against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Thursday night at Dunkin Donuts Park. Yard Goats starter Mike Ruff earned the win in his home debut, hurling five innings of two-run ball in front of the 31st sellout of the season. Kyle Datres had two hits and two stolen bases, and scored a run. Hartford is 3.5 games behind Portland for first place in the Eastern League Northeast Division.
The Fisher Cats struck first in the top of the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Gold off Hartford's starter Mike Ruff. The Yard Goats responded in the bottom of the frame. Kyle Datres led off with a single against New Hampshire's starter Sean Mellen, then stole second and third. Grant Lavigne's sac fly scored Datres, tying the game up 1-1.
The Blue Jays affiliate took back the lead on an RBI single by Luis De Los Santos in the fifth, his third hit of the game. In his first start at DDP since being called up from Spokane, Ruff tossed five innings of two-run ball, striking out three.
The Yard Goats fought right back with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. With the bases loaded and one out, Zac Veen's groundout scored Tyler Hill to tie the game. Hunter Stovall scored on a go-ahead single by Montano, then Veen raced home on a throwing error. The Yard Goats took a 4-2 lead into the sixth.
Hill and Stovall drove home a pair of runs on sacrifice flies in the sixth, extending the Yard Goats' lead to 6-2. Hill's second sac fly in the eighth scored Hartford's seventh run.
Yard Goats relievers Austin Kitchen and Gavin Hollowell combined for three scoreless innings and three strikeouts.
The Yard Goats continue their homestand against the Blue Jays affiliate, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, on Friday night at 7:05. RHP Mitch Kilkenny will start for the Yard Goats and LHP Ricky Tiedemann will start for the Fisher Cats. The game will be broadcasted on Newsradio 1410 WPOP. The two teams will battle it out three more times, with the series concluding on Sunday afternoon.
