Erie SeaWolves News Release
The Erie SeaWolves evened the series with the Akron RubberDucks after a 4-1 win and a 1-0 victory in a doubleheader sweep at UPMC Park on Thursday.
Akron opened up the scoring in the game one during the second inning. Jhonkensy Noel poked a one-out single off of Reese Olson and moved to second on a wild pitch. Johnathan Rodriguez singled Noel to third. Chris Roller drove in Noel with a double to give Akron a 1-0 lead.
Erie tied it up 1-1 in the second. Dillon Dingler homered off of Tanner Burns for his 12th long ball of the season.
Andrew Navigato greeted Burns with a leadoff double in the fourth. Quincy Nieporte crushed a ball over the left-field fence to put Erie ahead, 3-1 lead. It was his 28th homer of the year. Dingler reached on a two-out walk and advanced to third on a Gage Workman single. Workman was caught in a pickle but he retreated back to first base as no one was coming to the bag. This allowed Dingler to come around and score, making it a 4-1 game.
Yaya Chentouf nailed down his seventh save with a scoreless seventh inning. He worked around a leadoff walk, did not allow a hit, and struck out two.
Olson (6-5) earned the win in game one. He tossed six innings for his second straight quality start, yielding one run on four hits, walking none, and striking out eight.
Burns (2-5) received the loss in game one. He threw four innings, allowing four runs on four hits, walking one and striking out seven.
Game two was a pitching duel between the two rival clubs. Erie threatened with a Parker Meadows two-out triple in the first off of Eli Lingos but the 'Wolves could not bring him in. Dane Myers and Corey Joyce had back-to-back hits to lead off the second, but could not capitalize.
Akron had a chance to score a run in the fourth. Raynel Delgado worked a one-out walk against Adam Wolf. He moved to third on an Angel Lopez two-out single, but Julian Escobedo flew out to center to keep it a scoreless ballgame.
Wolf and Lingos both received no-decisions. Wolf hurled five shutout frames, scattering two hits and two walks while striking out five. Lingos tossed five scoreless innings, giving up three hits, no walks, and struck out two.
The SeaWolves snapped a stretch of 14-straight batters set down with a Parker Meadows walk against Kyle Marman in the seventh. Nieporte singled Meadows to second. Two batters later, Daniel Cabrera pinch-hit for Joyce and singled to right. Rodriguez then bobbled the ball, which allowed Meadows to score to game-winning run to seal the twinbill sweep.
Brendan White (6-4) pitched a 1-2-3 seventh inning and struck out a batter.
Marman (4-2) received the loss. He allowed an unearned run in 1.1 innings of work.
