Cleveland Monsters News Release
Four first-period goals accounted for the biggest offensive frame of the season for the Lake Erie Monsters (33-30-3-7), who rode their high-scoring start to a 6-2 win in Hamilton over the Bulldogs (28-37-1-5). The game was the first half of a home-and-home between the two teams this weekend. Andrew Agozzino scored twice for the Monsters, while Tomas Vincour recorded three assists in the fourth straight win for Lake Erie.
John Negrin opened the scoring for the Monsters on a point shot just 46 seconds into the game. His second goal of the season was assisted by Agozzino and Vincour.
Luke Walker took a centering pass from Tyler McNeely, who took the puck away on a forecheck, and made a move to score the second Monsters goal of the evening, making the score 2-0. Walker's goal was his 11th of the season and came with 15:30 left in the first period, and was also assisted by Gabriel Beaupre.
Vincour once against assisted on a Monsters goal when he found Agozzino open in front of the net at 7:23 of the second period. The goal was Agozzino's 19th of the season, and was also assisted by Bill Thomas.
Paul Carey scored to make it 4-0 Monsters at 12:50 of the first period when he put on a spectacular stickhandling display, faked to the backhand, and scored the goal that ended the evening for Hamilton goalie Dustin Tokarski. Marc Hagel assisted for his first professional point, and Jamie MacQueen also gathered an assist on Carey's 17th goal of the season.
After a scoreless second period, Agozzino scored his second goal of the game when he banged in the rebound from a Vincour shot 24 seconds into the third period. Agozzino's 20th goal was also assisted by Carey and gave the Monsters a 5-0 lead.
Dean Strong's fifth goal of the season came after a rebound and gave the Monsters a 6-0 lead, with assists going to Thomas and Vincent Arseneau at 5:07 of the third period.
Kyle Hagel - brother of Lake Erie's Marc - scored on a breakaway for Hamilton at 5:57 of the third to break Calvin Pickard's shutout bid, leaving the Monsters on top by a 6-1 count.
Michael Bournival scored for Hamilton at 15:08 of the third period, but it would be the final goal of the game, pulling Hamilton to within four of the Monsters.
Pickard stopped 22 of 24 shots and is 18-19-5 in net for the Monsters. Tokarski allowed four goals on five shots in 12:37 for Hamilton, suffering the loss. He is 24-15-4. Jacob Chouinard stopped 17 of 19 shots in relief for Hamilton.
