IceCaps, Purolator Hold Events to Fight Hunger

St. John's IceCaps News Release

The St. John's IceCaps and Purolator provided a truck full of food to the local Community Food Sharing Association this morning and will hold a food drive before Sunday's game versus the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

Today at Mile One Centre, Purolator donated a refurbished Purolator truck to the Community Food Sharing Association and the St. John's IceCaps filled the vehicle with food to kick off another Purolator Shut Out Hunger event to be held 3-4 p.m. Sunday at Mile One.

"This is an exciting weekend in our relationship with Purolator and the Community Food Sharing Association," said Glenn Stanford, Governor and COO of the IceCaps. "First we have this donation of a truck and a truck load of food, and then we hope to collect thousands of pounds of more food on Sunday."

Stephen Noseworthy, Purolator's District Manager, Newfoundland and Labrador, says food banks require safe and reliable vehicles to transport food.

"This truck can improve the capacity and increase the efficiency of the food bank to reach more families who are in need," said Noseworthy.

"We are encouraging all IceCaps fans to make a donation before Sunday's game and help us fill up the truck many times over."

The first Purolator Shut Out Hunger food drive in February at Mile One Centre raised the equivalent of 3,500 lbs. of food.

This Sunday, IceCaps fans attending the game are encouraged to participate by bringing non-perishable food items to the Purolator volunteers stationed at the Mile One Centre entrances. In return, fans will be entered into a draw for a replica IceCaps jersey.

Additionally, each time an IceCaps player scores a goal, Purolator will donate 100 pounds of food towards the Purolator Shut Out Hunger food drive and the IceCaps will match that contribution.
