
Monsters Announce Opening Night Roster

Cleveland Monsters News Release
Following last week's training camp practices and two preseason games over the weekend, the Monsters announced their official roster on Monday. Eight players were released, leaving the opening night roster set at 28. The team will begin its sixth season in Cleveland this Friday, October 12th against the Oklahoma City Barons at Quicken Loans Arena (7:30 p.m.).
Some notes on the roster include:
- 17 of the 28 players spent time with the Monsters at some point last season
- Of those, Patrick Bordeleau has been with the team the longest; 2012-13 will be his fourth season with the Monsters
- Six of those 17 played in the NHL with the Colorado Avalanche last season (Connolly, van der Gulik, Barrie, Olver, Malone, Elliott)
- Newcomer Bill Thomas also played in the NHL with the Florida Panthers
- Four players spent last season with other AHL teams (G. Walker - WBS; Lerg - WBS; Thomas - SA; Sullivan - WOR/SA)
- Four players were in the lower minor leagues last season (Goers - Las Vegas/ECHL; Wilson - Allen/CHL; Strong - Kalamazoo/ECHL; Tassone - Ontario/ECHL)
- Four players were in juniors last season (Agozzino - Niagara/OHL; Pickard - Seattle/WHL; Sgarbossa - Sudbury/OHL; Heard - Plymouth/OHL)
- Two players spent last season competing overseas (Pock - Sweden; Aittokallio - Finland)
- Three players were in college last season (Stollery - Merrimack; MacQueen - Bemidji; Carey - Boston College), all of whom played for the Monsters at the end of last season when they finished their collegiate schedule
- There are 21 Canadian-born players, five US-born, one from Finland (Aittokallio) and one from Austria (Pock)

The Lake Erie Monsters are part of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Quicken Loans Arena organization and also owned by a group led by Cavaliers Majority Owner and Quicken Loans Founder and Chairman Dan Gilbert. The group also owns and operates the Cleveland Gladiators of the Arena Football League playing at Quicken Loans Arena and the Canton Charge of the NBA Development League playing in nearby Canton, Ohio at the Canton Civic Center.
