Sanford Mainers News Release

=MONTPELIER, V.T. - After one-half inning of baseball, everything was well and good for the Sanford Mainers (14-13), though after that it was nearly all Vermont (10-14) as they steam rolled the Moose 16-5.

The Mountaineers did so by scoring consistently, as opposed to scoring a bunch of runs in one frame. Vermont scored no more than three in a single inning, only getting blanked in two innings at the end of the game by the Mainers pitching staff.

Sanford jumped to an early lead in the 1st, seemingly ready to continue their white-hot five-game winning streak. *Zach Jancarski (Maryland) *doubled, and advanced to third on *Jordan Powell's (Rhode Island) *sacrifice bunt and a following error, with the error knocking him in. Up 1-0, *Todd Czinege (Villanova) *quickly singled in Powell, only to be driven in by *Tristan Chari (Vanderbilt) *on an RBI double, making the score 3-0.

After that first half inning, it would be almost entirely Vermont lighting up the offensive portion of the game. The Mountaineers got three runs back in the bottom of the inning, as Trevor Ezell (Southeast Missouri) reached after strike three got by Chari. Later in the inning with two men away, Mike Osinski (Longwood) singled, coupled with a Will Morgan (Old Dominion) walk to load the bases. Keegan Meyn (Arkansas Little Rock) cleared the bases with three-RBI triple, tying the game up at three.

Sanford got one back in the top of the second to take a brief 4-3 lead when *John Cresto (Santa Clara) *tripled and scored on a Jancarski RBI-double. While the Mainers would score again much later in the ball game, it would be no use in upending the hometown Mountaineers.

The Mountaineers responded with three more runs in the bottom of the 2nd, and then three more in the 3rd to quickly put the game out of reach.

In all, the Mountaineers scored their 16 runs on 15 base hits, aided by three walks and more importantly, five Sanford errors.

Sanford will rest tomorrow, July 12 after eight games in eight days. When the Mainers return to action they will face the Winnipesaukee Muskrats, who visit Goodall Park for the first time this year. First pitch is set for 6:30 PM, not the regularly scheduled 1 PM, with pregame coverage beginning at 6:15 PM on the NECBL Broadcast Network.
