It was a tough outing from start to finish for the Mooseheads on Sunday in front of a near sell-out crowd at Scotiabank Centre. 10,416 fans were crammed into the building to watch as the Moncton Wildcats stormed out of the gates and crushed Halifax 8-2.

The game was undoubtedly the worst outing of the season for the Mooseheads who have now dropped two straight and will kick off a four-game road trip Monday afternoon in Moncton in a rematch against the Cats. Jack Milner made the start in goal and allowed two goals on two shots before giving way to Mathis Rousseau who did not fare any better. Rousseau gave up six goals on 26 shots over the next 33+ minutes. Milner came back in for the third period and stopped all nine he faced.

Box Score

Moncton had their QMJHL-leading power play on display in the contest by scoring three times on five chances with the man advantage. First star Julius Sumpf scored the first two goals of the game and later added an assist. Mile Mueller also scored twice for the visitors while Preston Lounsbury had three assists. 15-of-18 Moncton skaters picked up at least one point in the blowout victory.

Peter Reynolds and Liam Kilfoil had the two Mooseheads tallies but Halifax was never close in a game they will want to quickly put in the rearview mirror. Logan Crosby had a pair of assists in the defeat.

The lengthy road trip could serve as a good reset for the Moose, who were rolling along pretty well until Friday's loss in Cape Breton. Gametime on Monday in Moncton is 2pm at the Avenir Centre and the team will stay the night in the Hub City before continuing on to Sherbrooke to face the Phoenix on Thursday. Then it's Gatineau on Friday and Sherbrooke next Sunday.

The next home game for the Mooseheads is scheduled for Wednesday, February 28th against the Cape Breton Eagles. Tickets are on sale now at Ticketmaster.ca
