Monarchs Send Diaz to Lake Country for All-Star

Kansas City, Kan. - On August 7th, 2022, The Kansas City Monarchs continued to utilize the open trading block by sending LHP Carlos Diaz to the Lake Country DockHounds. In returnthe Monarchs willreceive INF GioBrusa, a member of the 2022 American Association All-Star team.

The Monarch's newest addition is extremely versatile and brings a lot of experience to the table. Gio Brusa played four seasons in the San Francisco Giants system, playing at all three minor league levels, including the Sacramento River Cats, the Triple-Aaffiliate of the Giants.

So far this season Brusa has been a steady leader for the newest team in the American Association. Brusa has clubbed 15 home runs, 10 doubles, 56 RBI, and 64 total hits.

Brusa is a very fine-tuned hitter, who has the ability to swing from both sides of the plate. Brusa hit two home runs on June 4th against the Monarchs at Wisconsin Brewing Company Park and two more in back-to-back games when the DockHounds came to Legends Field on July 16th and 17th.

The flame throwing lefty Carlos Diaz was on the inactive list for Kansas City and had not appeared in any games for the Monarchs this season. Diaz did a great job last season for the Monarchs, anchoring the back end of the bullpen with 11 saves and 59 strikeouts. Diaz also finished the championship season with a 4-1 record on the mound. Carlos was also a member of the Kansas City T-Bones for two seasons. He is tied for the franchise lead in saves all-time with Cody Winiarski with 33.

The Monarchs currently are in the middle of a six-game road trip that will continue tomorrow at Sioux City, Iowa against the Explorers. The game time is set for 7:00 pm and The game can be heard on the Monarchs Broadcast Network with the pre-game beginning at 6:30 p.m.and the video stream airing on aabaseball.tv.
