SACRAMENTO, CALIF., Jan. 8 , 2007- The Sacramento Monarchs today announced that the organization has selected LaToya Bond as the 10th pick in the WNBA Dispersal Draft.
The 5'7" guard was originally selected by the Charlotte Sting in the second round (27th overall) of the 2006 WNBA Draft, last April. During the 2006 season Bond appeared in all 34 games with the Sting, including five starts. She averaged 19.1 minutes, 5.7 points, 1.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.03 steals, and 0.24 blocks per game.
Bond finished her career at Missouri as one of only three players in school history to record 1,000 points and 300 assists. During her four years at Missouri she averaged 10.8 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.8 steals in 110 games. Bond was named to the 2006 All-Big 12 First Team and the All-Big 12 Defensive Team. She also earned an All-America honorable mention from the WBCA in 2006.
"We are excited to have selected LaToya Bond," said Monarchs Head Coach, Jenny Boucek. "She is a good, young athlete that can play both sides of the floor. We look forward to seeing her in Training Camp."
The 2006 WNBA Western Conference Champion Sacramento Monarchs will host the Los Angeles Sparks in their Home Opener on Saturday, June 2, at 7 p.m., at ARCO Arena, in a rematch of the 2006 WNBA Western Conference Finals.
