WNBA Holds Dispersal Draft for Former Members of the Charlotte Sting

Detroit Shock News Release

Auburn Hills, MI - The WNBA held a Dispersal Draft on Monday, January 8 to disseminate the players that made up the roster of the Charlotte Sting during the 2006 season. The Sting ceased operation in December leaving 13 players available for teams to select. The order of selection was in inverse order of the league's 2006 regular season finish.

The Detroit Shock, selecting 11th in the Dispersal Draft, elected not to make a selection. The Connecticut Sun, choosing 13th, also elected not to select any former members of the Sting.

"We were hoping that players at certain positions would drop down to us with the 11th pick," said Shock Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel Bill Laimbeer, "but things didn't work out. Rather then select somebody just for the sake of making a pick, we felt that it was in our best interest to pass, and try to improve our club through free agency, trades and the collegiate draft."

Tasha Butts and Summer Erb were not selected in the Dispersal Draft. Former Sting players Tammy Sutton-Brown and Allison Feaster are both Unrestricted Free Agents and may sign with any team.
