MANCHESTER, NH - Max and the Manchester Monarchs will take part in the grand opening of the new "Monarchs Meadow" at the Peter Woodbury Elementary School in Bedford, New Hampshire on Tuesday, June 15 at 1:30 p.m.

Peter Woodbury Elementary School was the recipient of the Monarchs Care Foundation's $2,500 quarterly "Investing In Our Youth" grant in May of 2009. They have used the grant to create and construct over the last year "Monarchs Meadow", an outdoor learning center for students in the second grade. "Monarchs Meadow" is a garden area created on the school grounds that will attract the Monarch butterfly. The students in the second grade investigate and learn about Monarch butterflies and their life cycle. In the fall, they search for the butterflies' eggs and caterpillars which the children raise in the classroom, tag and release.

On Tuesday, Max and Monarchs President Darren Abbott will assist the second grade class by spreading seed balls that were made by the Peter Woodbury Garden Club. The plants that will grow in the "Monarchs Meadow" will serve as a food source for butterflies, as well as a place for them to lay their eggs.

"The partnership between Peter Woodbury and the Monarchs has always enhanced the learning opportunities that are available to the students at our school," said Peter Woodbury's Principal Ken Williams. "We are very excited to give our second grade students the opportunity to learn 'hands-on' science in the 'Monarchs Meadow'."

"Peter Woodbury Elementary School has created a great learning center for their students with the creation of 'Monarchs Meadow'," said Abbott. "We are grateful to see that our 'Investing in Our Youth' grant will be rewarding so many students and teaching them about the flight of the Monarch butterfly."
