Manitoba Moose News Release
The Manitoba Moose, the AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks, today announced an extension to their developmental affiliation agreement with the Victoria Salmon Kings of the ECHL. The agreement is a one-year extension that will see the Moose and Salmon Kings work together for the fifth season in a row in order to develop players within the Canucks organization.
The Moose and Salmon Kings originally entered into their affiliation agreement, along with the Vancouver Canucks back on July 18, 2006.
"After the tremendous success we have had with the Salmon Kings, we are looking forward to once again working with Mark Morrison and the rest of the organization in 2010-11," said Craig Heisinger, Senior Vice-President and General Manager of the Moose. "The Salmon Kings have done a great job of providing young players and they have the same type of atmosphere that we strive to provide here in Winnipeg with the Moose, so it is a great fit."
The Salmon Kings finished the 2009-10 season in fourth place in the West Division with a 34-32-4-2 record. Thanks in part to the guidance of Head Coach and General Manager Mark Morrison, a number of players split time between the Moose and Salmon Kings last season including defenceman Taylor Ellington who appeared in 19 games on the Moose blueline. Current Moose mainstays such as defenceman Travis Ramsey also spent some time in Victoria back in 2008-09.
The Salmon Kings will kick off their seventh season in the ECHL in October, 2010, while the Manitoba Moose schedule will be announced along with the rest of the American Hockey League schedule in early August.
