Monarchs Make History in 3-2 Victory over Thunder

MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Manchester Monarchs defeated the Adirondack Thunder, 3-2, Saturday night in the seventh annual Pink in the Rink game at SNHU Arena.
With the win, the Monarchs (29-11-4-4) pushed their winning streak against the Thunder (25-14-4-3) to four games, dating back to Jan. 13.
Manchester opened the scoring when Zac Lynch scored his 11th goal of the season at 1:41 of the opening period. The puck ended up in the slot on a misplay behind the net by Adirondack goaltender, Mason McDonald, and after Matt Leitner over-skated the puck, Lynch found the biscuit and stuffed it past a diving McDonald, to give the Monarchs an early, 1-0, lead.
The Monarchs added to their lead when Gasper Kopitar netted his 6th goal of the season just 34 seconds after the Lynch ice-breaker. Teddy Doherty sent a slap-pass to Kopitar who was camped to the right of the goal, where he had a yawning cage to shoot into to make the score, 2-0, Monarchs.
Adirondack cut the Manchester lead in half when Stepan Falkovsky scored his 13th goal of the season at 7:12 of the second period. Falkovsky fired a wrister from just inside the right point and beat the glove of Monarchs goaltender, Sam Brittain, to make the score, 2-1.
Manchester regained their two-goal advantage when Daniel Doremus scored his 8th goal of the season at 8:54 while on the power play. Doremus took a cross-ice pass from Thomas Schemitsch at the left dot, and fired a one-timer past the glove of McDonald to make the score, 3-1, Monarchs.
The Thunder made the score, 3-2, when Conor Riley scored his 3rd goal of the year at 9:27 of the second period. Riley walked out of the right corner and roofed a backhander up-an-over Brittain's glove, cutting the Monarchs lead to, 3-2.
After a scoreless final frame, the Monarchs survived a late penalty kill to seal the victory.
The Monarchs return to the ice Sunday, Feb. 12 (3 p.m.), when they travel to Glens Falls, N.Y., to take on the Thunder in the final game of a two-game, home-and-home series with their North Division rivals.
