PLAYOFF PICTURE

The Monarchs (77 pts.) enter tonight's game in Elmira three points behind the Brampton Beast and Adirondack Thunder for the top spot in the North Division, and tied with the Reading Royals. Due to having fewer wins, the Monarchs sit in the fourth and final playoff spot in the North, with the Wheeling Nailers (72 pts.) having an outside shot at post-season play. Despite falling last night, the Monarchs magic number now sits at four, thanks to the Nailers losing last night as well.

If the playoffs were to begin today, the Monarchs and Beast would face-off in the North Division Semifinals.

THAT'S NUMBER ONE

Mario Puskarich recorded the first goal of his professional career last night, and has now contributed two points in four games since signing with the Monarchs out of the University of Vermont.

ADD SOME SAUCE

Monarchs defenseman, Colton Saucerman, continues to add value on the power play, and currently sits third among first-year skaters with 13 assists while on the man-advantage. With his helper last night, Saucerman now has 25 on the season, including four in seven games with the Monarchs.

GET PAST TWO

The Monarchs continue to struggle when scoring two goals or fewer, and after last night's, 6-2, loss, are now 1-12-3-0 when only lighting the lamp twice in a game. The Monarchs fare a little better when scoring three goals, posting a 3-6-2-2 record, but are completely dominant when scoring four or more, putting up a 29-3-2-2 record in high scoring affairs.

WHAT WAS THAT?

The four-goal outburst by the Jackals in the third period of last night's game may have come as a surprise to the Monarchs, because entering the game, the Jackals had produced the fewest crunch time goals in the league (48), averaging only 1.14 per game. The Jackals also flipped the script in terms of shots on goal last night, as they posted 40 pucks on net, bringing their season-long average to 27.51, the second-lowest average in the league.
