Aces Outshoot Rush But Suffer 2-1 Loss Friday

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA - The Alaska Aces fired 50 shots on the Rapid City net, but Adam Morrison stood tall, knocking away all but one as the Rush held off the Aces 2-1 Friday night at the Sullivan Arena.

The fourth-place Aces loss, along with wins by Missouri and Utah, closes the gap to two points for the Mavericks and three for the Grizzlies in the race for the final Mountain Division playoff spot.

The Rush scored first in the opening period, as Sam Rothstein potted his first career goal at 11:45 off helpers from Mark Cooper and Hunter Fejes.

The Aces tied the game at 14:59, as Mackenze Stewart drove home a low blast stick-side on Morrison. It was Stewart's 5th goal of the season...Tim Coffman and Charlie Sampair getting assists.

Shots after one favored Alaska 23-7.

The game winning goal came at 16:37 of the second period as Rothstein struck again from Cooper and Geoff Fortman.

Shots after two: 32-18 Aces.

Alaska continued to outshoot Rapid City badly in the third period, but came up empty. Shots in the third were 18-4 Aces, and 50-22 Alaska for the game.

The Aces were 0-3 on the power play, Rapid City 0-1.

Alaska and Rapid City will play again Saturday at 7:15pm and Sunday 3:05pm at the Sullivan Arena.
