PLAYOFF PICTURE

The Monarchs (71 pts.) arrive in Elmira looking up in the North Division for the first time since Dec. 7, when they trailed the Adirondack Thunder by one point for the top spot in the North. The Monarchs now find themselves one point behind the surging Brampton Beast.

If the playoffs were to start today, the Monarchs and Thunder would face-off in the North Division semifinals for the second-consecutive year.

PLAY TO THE AVERAGE

Tonight's game at First Arena will pit the two teams with the largest goal differential in the Eastern Conference. The Monarchs begin their three-game road trip with the most goals scored in the East, lighting the lamp 212 times, while Elmira checks-in with the fewest goals scored in the ECHL with only 120 markers. It's no surprise the Monarchs are close to the top of the league, scoring 3.85 goals per game, while Elmira is dead last, averaging only 2.18 goals a contest. The closest team to Elmira, the Indy Fuel, sit at 2.47 goals per game.

LACK OF FIGHT

The Jackals have found relative success when scoring the first goal of the game, and have posted an 8-8-4-0 record when lighting the lamp first. Although those eight victories are 80% of their wins all season, their .500 winning percentage when scoring first is the lowest in the league. When the Jackals allow the first goal of the game, the team is 2-29-3-1.

GOT OUR NUMBER?

Although the Jackals only have 10 wins all season, they have posted a 3-5-0-0 record against the Monarchs. Against the rest of the top-five teams in the Eastern Conference, the Jackals are 3-22-0-0. Manchester has gotten back on track in their last six games with Elmira however, having gone 5-0-1-0, outscoring the Jackals, 28-15.

KEEPING THE ARMS DOWN

If tonight's game follows the script, very few penalties will be called at First Arena. On the season, the Jackals have only been on the power play 68 times at home in 24 games (2.83 per game), the second fewest in the league, while opponents have only had a man-advantage 79 times (3.29 per game), also the second fewest in the ECHL. Those numbers, combined with the Monarchs posting the fourth-lowest penalty minute average per game (11.80), should make for a relatively clean game.
