ESTERO, Fla. - The Manchester Monarchs fell to the Florida Everblades, 3-2, Saturday night at Germain Arena, taking only one point out of their three-game series with the top team in the Eastern Conference.
The Monarchs (21-10-1-2) have now dropped three in a row to the Everblades (23-7-1-2), and trail Florida by four points for the lead in the East.
The Monarchs opened the scoring at11:37 of the first period when Joey Diamond netted his 12th goal of the season. Teddy Doherty threw the puck towards the net from the high slot that bounced of the body of Diamond and past Everblades goaltender, Anthony Peters, to give the Monarchs a 1-0 lead.
The Everblades tied things up at 1-1 when Evan Bloodoff scored his 2nd goal of the season at 8:12 of the second period. Bloodoff entered the Monarchs zone on the right wing, drifted towards the top of the circle and sent a wrister up-and-over the glove of Monarchs goaltender, Jonah Imoo.
Florida took the lead when Mike Ferrantino scored his 7th goal of the season at 8:30 of the third period. Ferrantino took the puck down the left wing, curled and dragged the puck around a Monarchs defender and lifted the puck over Imoo's right shoulder to put the Everblades up, 2-1.
Brant Harris gave the Everblades a 3-1 lead at 18:04 of the final frame when he scored a breakaway goal, his 14th of the season. Thomas Schemitsch lost an edge while chasing the puck at center ice, and Harris went in all alone on Imoo, where he deked, and wrapped a forehanded shot around the left leg of Imoo to extend the Everblades lead.
The Monarchs inched closer when Kevin Morris netted his 8th goal of the season at 19:30 of the final frame. Morris found a bouncing puck in the slot, and roofed a snapper over the shoulder of Peters to make the score, 3-2.
The Monarchs are back in action Saturday, Jan. 13 (7 p.m.), when they finish their five-game road trip with a North Division showdown against the Adirondack Thunder.
