Jackals Swept in Weekend Set in Norfolk

NORFOLK, VA. - January 7, 2017 - Brandon Anderson stopped 30 shots and the Norfolk Admirals (9-20-4-0) scored three power-play goals to defeat the Elmira Jackals (7-19-5-0), 3-0, to sweep a weekend set at the Norfolk Scope Saturday night. It's the sixth time this season, and fifth time on the road, that the Jackals have been shut out.
In the first period, the Jackals took three minor penalties in the first half of the period and the Admirals took advantage to sail out to an early lead. Just 6:46 into the first period, Jaedon Descheneau found a a loose puck in the slot after a blocked shot and fired a shot past Andy Iles to give the Admirals a 1-0 lead. A few minutes later, on their third power play in a row, the Admirals struck again when Brodie Dupont scored at 10:51 to put the Ads up 2-0.
The Jackals played a better second period, but still saw the Admirals lead expand to three. Dupont and the Admirals capitalized on another power play 5:30 into the second period for a 3-0 lead as the Admirals began 3-for-4 on the power play through the first 26 minutes of the game. The Jackals generated offensive chances the rest of the period, but Brandon Anderson shut the door to keep it 3-0 after 40 minutes.
The Jackals attempted a third-period comeback, outshooting the Admirals 15-3 in the final period, but Anderson was solid for Norfolk to hold the fort and earn his first shutout of the season in a 3-0 win.
