Manchester Monarchs News Release

Manchester, NH -- The Manchester Monarchs took their 8th consecutive win Saturday with a 6-3 victory against the Albany River Rats at the Verizon Wireless Arena. With the victory, the Monarchs tied the Houston Aeros for the longest winning streak in the American Hockey League this season.

The River Rats gained control of the game early by scoring two first period goals. Then Manchester's Steve Kelly extended his point streak with the Monarchs to seven games with his fifth goal at 12:05 of the stanza. Defenseman Joe Corvo had the only assist on the goal.

Jeff Giuliano, recalled by the Monarchs from the Reading Royals (ECHL) earlier in the week, recorded his first goal of the season and first goal as a Monarchs player at 8:01 of the second period to tie the game at 2-2. Chris Schmidt and Dane Jackson were credited with the assists. Like Giuliano, defenseman Tomas Zizka also collected his first goal of the season. His slap shot from the blue line put the Monarchs up 3-2 midway through the second period. Winger Eric Healey stuffed in a rebound past Albany netminder Scott Clemmensen for the eventual gamewinner.

Third period goals from Steve Heinze and Mike Pudlick sealed the win for the Monarchs. The Heinze goal was scored with the Monarchs holding a power play advantage.

The Monarchs (9-1-1-0) continue their weekend schedule on Sunday at the Cumberland County Civic Center against the Portland Pirates. Game time is 4:05 p.m.
