Griffins Hold on for 2-1 Win in Utah

WEST VALLEY CITY, UT - The Grand Rapids Griffins (5-3-3-0) earned two more points on the road with a 2-1 win over the Utah Grizzlies (5-9-0-0) at The "E" Center on Saturday night. The win boosts the Griffins' road record to 4-0-1.

The Griffins outshot the Grizzlies 48-20, but Utah's rookie netminder Jason Bacashihua (3-4-0) was up to the challenge, making 46 saves. The Griffins' rookie netminder Joey MacDonald made 18 saves en route to boosting his record to 2-2-0.

Rob Collins got the Griffins on the board 12:47 into the first period when he took a pass from Ryan Barnes and beat Bacashihua for his second goal of the season. Collins, a Ferris State alum, has points in four of five outings this season.

Tomas Kopecky extended the Griffins lead when Hugo Boisvert dropped a pass to Kopecky who one-timed it into the net 2:26 into the second period.

The Grizzlies answered with a power-play goal two minutes later by Marc Kristoffersson from Jeff Bateman and Justin Cox.

The Griffins return to action Tuesday, Nov. 14 at Van Andel Arena at noon against the Manitoba Moose.
