
Monarchs Announce April Investing In Our Youth Winners

MANCHESTER, NH â The Manchester Monarchs, the primary affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, have donated $1,000 scholarships to the Nashua School District's Academy of Learning and Technology and to Manchester's McLaughlin Middle School as part of their Investing In Our Youth grant program, the team announced on Monday. Thanks to the Investing In Our Youth grant program, the Monarchs are able to award two different $1,000 scholarships every month. One of the scholarships goes to a deserving youth sports teams. The other scholarship goes to a deserving school organization.
The Academy of Learning and Technology is an alternative school for at-risk students (ages 11-16) who have been unsuccessful in traditional classrooms. Many of its 123 full-time students have experienced or witnessed violence first-hand and regard it as a natural part of conflict resolution. The school also has the highest poverty rate of any secondary school in the state of New Hampshire. The school plans to use the Investing In Our Youth grant money to purchase personal athletic equipment such as baseball gloves, bats and cleats for its boy's baseball and girl's softball programs.
McLaughlin Middle School comprises over 950 students and staff members. Over 50 languages are spoken in the diverse population of the school, which plans to use the Investing In Our Youth grant money to educate students, staff and parents about the dangers of substance abuse through the purchase of materials (games, videos, etc.) for its Student Assistance Program.
