Manchester Monarchs News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. - Manchester Monarchs Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Rich Seeley announced the team has acquired Connor Hardowa in a trade with the Utah Grizzlies (ECHL) for the ECHL rights to Zac Larraza.
The Monarchs are the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Los Angeles Kings and the American Hockey League's Ontario Reign.
Hardowa, 27, joins the Monarchs after spending the 2015-16 season with the Grizzlies. Hardowa played in 43 games during his third professional season, and scored 13 points on three goals and 10 assists. The defenseman recorded 21 penalty minutes and a +5 rating.
The 6-foot-1, 210-pound native of Edmonton, Alberta, has logged 98 career ECHL games with the Grizzlies, scoring 34 points on eight goals and 26 assists, as well as seven AHL games with the Abbotsford Heat. Hardowa played 48 games for KooKoo Kouvola (Mestis) in Finland during the 2013-14 season, where he registered nine points on three goals and six assists.
Prior to turning pro, Hardowa skated for the University of New Hampshire for four seasons, and wore the "C" his senior year. In total, Hardowa skated in 143 games for the Wildcats and registered 43 points on 11 goals and 32 assists. While on campus, Hardowa was named to the 2009-10 Hockey East All-Academic Team and won a Hockey East regular-season championship the same season.
Larraza, who signed an AHL contract with the San Diego Gulls on Sept. 8, played 39 games with the Monarchs in his rookie campaign, posting 30 points on 20 goals and 10 assists. During the regular season, Larraza played 24 AHL games between the Portland Pirates, Milwaukee Admirals and Gulls, totaling eight points on three goals and five assists. The native of Scottsdale, Ariz., added three points on two goals and one assist in five Kelly Cup Playoff games.
Hardowa and the Monarchs open the 2016-17 regular season Oct. 14 (7 p.m.), when they host the Adirondack Thunder for the first of two games on Opening Weekend.
